Display Case Tutorial Part 5

Last part... we are finally done! I think this was somewhere between 8-12 hours. Not really sure though.

Here it is....

For the trim I added to the top, I used the same technique as for the decorative disk at the bottom, only with rolled out snakes instead of a ball. That hid my glue mishap well! I kept it a solid brown oxide to match the other trims and places that I did that.

I cut a piece of red velvet for the inside. I think it really makes it pop!

Here's a front view.

Side view.

Back view.
I forgot to say earlier that when I was painting, I dry brushed some black and brown on the hinges so they wouldn't look so new.

Then I decided to play dress up J.

Well, what do you think? I think it turned out okay by the end. I hope everyone enjoyed following along, hope I didn't get you too lost!

Morgan, this will be on it's way to you Monday or Tuesday J.

Mystery Mini Revealed!

Have you been itching to know what the mystery mini would be? I've been itching to reveal it! I don't know what the exact proper name of it is, it is essentially a display case, but I am making one that is more like a display stand... so I call it a display case stand J.

Here is a picture of one I found listed as a display case.

Here is another display case... but it's tall like a display stand.

And here is another one .

The one below however, is the one that inspired me. Sorry I couldn't find a better picture. It's actually from a video game (hence me getting the time period all wrong at first!). It's got that slanted top that I love (you may remember it from the traveler's desks I made), and it's got a glass top and velvet lining for showcasing your treasures (or other minis in our case J), and it's tall like a stand of some sort (kind of like my bookstands). In the video game it is of dark wood and reminds me of Tudor furniture, maybe it's the feet. It comes in a variety of widths and a variety of velvet interiors.

So who wins the guessing game? I count 4 exact guesses and 4 extremely close guesses.

Kate, Michelle guessed Display Cabinet
Mieljolie guessed Display Table
Jaime guessed Display Stand
Lainie guessed Glass Table (close)
Victoria guessed that Lainie might be right J
Sara Scales guessed Cabinet with Leaded Glass (close)
Patty guessed Elaborate Bookstand with Glass to Protect the Items on the Shelves (close)

Great guesses to EVERYONE! Some made me giggle and some gave me ideas, (I feel a Tantalus in the future J). So thank you to everyone for participating!

I have some of your addresses already, Meiljolie, Lainie, Sara, and Patty I'll need you to email me at lorraine@dflycreations.net with your address. I'm not quite done making your little tidbits so I will save announcing what they are until I can finish them and take some good pictures.

As for the grand prize winner... the winner of the display case stand, I will be gathering the names of everyone who posted a comment on the giveaway post and picking one out of a hat. It will be after I finish with the guessers prizes so be patient J.

Again, thanks to ALL my followers, still can't believe there are so many of you!

Book Stands and Candles

It's taken me longer than I wanted with this one. I got it built pretty quick but I didn't know what paint job to give it. I ended up going with browns, they are my safety colors :).
Can't really tell in the photos but the trim is all a lighter brown.
Imagine the decorations you can place on the shelves!
Celtic design is a favorite of my customer so I incorporated some here.

This one I had in my minds eye for a while.
I wanted an open design, almost defying gravity. Very whimsical.
The crystal ball was a must, so I had to make the part that holds the book so that it wouldn't detract from the view below.
And I wanted a magical, stardust look to it.
Although every time I look at it I also get a circus feel :), maybe it's the colors.

And of course many candles. More tapered candles and some votives too.

Now it's off to wand boxes for the wands you saw earlier, then off to books. It's about 9pm here right now and I never got to making bone scrolls for Etsy like I wanted to, that book stand stalled me for a day. I'll see if I can squeeze some in tonight or tomorrow.

Scrolls, a book stand, and so much more!

I have a great order I'm working on, it's got some great pieces to it! Not to mention creative freedom :).

Some mushrooms like the ones I made for the potion cabinets, and some new brown ones.

More fancy wands.

And more rustic wands.

Some decorative candles, these were a challenge!

Some plain scrolls.

A book stand with a nature theme. I think next time I will add some shelf mushrooms to it. Maybe orange ones to add some color.

Some fancy scrolls, these are a new style for me. What do you think?

Here are some close ups of the fancy scrolls:
Love this bone one with the skeleton hand, hope it's not too creepy for my customer.

A few dragon scrolls to keep the magic theme :).

A potions scroll.

A spell craft scroll.

A scroll all about wands.

This next one is my favorite. It's a Zodiac scroll, picture doesn't do it justice. Maybe if you click on it you can see some of the details.

This next one is a real looker! it opens up to inches and inches of divination information.

That's it for today. More book stands with different themes, more candles, and books coming soon.

Wiccan Altar Table

Completely finished and ready for Etsy... finally!

I think the addition of the shelf and stool really completes the scene.

I didn't have room on the table for all the scrolls so they ended up in the cauldron, almost like they were always meant for it!

The basket is not made by me it's one of the few things in this scene that isn't. The others are the 2 glass balls as the crystal balls and the 3 amethyst crystals. Everything else is made by me from polymer clay, wood, or paper. Lots of paint too!

These potion bottles are my favorites! My husband really wants me to keep the one with the twine and skull embellishment. I'll have to try and make him another :).

62 pieces in all, 65 if you count the table, shelf, and stool. If you've visited my Etsy shop, you'll know that I believe in affordable miniatures. I strive to make quality minis that everyone can afford. That being said, the total cost of this setup kind of shocked me. I priced everything individually, very low prices like I would if I was selling everything separately. Only 5 items were barely over $5.00 and nothing was over $10.00 (including the furniture). Because the total seemed like such a large number, I will be posting this with free shipping. I'm in the US and I ship worldwide. Insurance is not included but it is optional.

My husband says I need to make some of this stuff to sell individually too, I already decided on making lots more of the wrapped and labeled candles (black and white), what kinds of things do you guys think I should make more of from this set?

My magical minis need more space!!!

You guessed it, there wasn't enough room on the table for all the minis I made. I decided to add a shelf (most likely for the potions) and a stool. Nothing special, just more space :).
I'll be posting the final pictures just a little later and I'll be posting on Etsy tonight too.
